ECHT ’24 France: Join Us for Insights on Optimizing Extrusion and Die Casting Dies for Efficiency and Sustainability

Nitrex will be participating in the European Conference on Heat Treatment and Surface Engineering (ECHT 2024) from June 5-7, 2024, in Toulouse, France. Organized by A3TS, ECHT features scientific and industrial presentations, poster sessions, and a tradeshow, providing an unparalleled platform for professionals to explore innovative technologies and practices that are shaping the future of the heat treatment and surface engineering industries.

Aluminum extrusion and die casting are increasingly popular in the automotive and aerospace industries due to their significant benefits. The demand in the automotive sector is driven by the need for lighter vehicles, which help improve fuel efficiency and reduce emissions, as well as the production of high-quality, complex parts that are both precise and cost-effective for high-volume production. In the aerospace industry, extrusions and die castings are valued for their high strength-to-weight ratio, precision in manufacturing complex geometries, and high corrosion resistance, which enhance fuel efficiency and overall aircraft performance.

This year, Nitrex’s presentation promises practical insights into the treatment of extrusion dies and die casting dies, providing solutions for industry challenges. Titled “Industrial Tooling: Failure Mode of Aluminum Extrusion Dies and Die Casting Dies,” Jack Kalucki, Technical Advisor at Nitrex, will offer proper heat-treatment guidelines and explain methods to detect and avoid costly defects to achieve the best die life and performance. By exploring best practices and technologies for heat treatment, we aim to offer participants the knowledge necessary to better understand and minimize die failures, enhance die life, reduce tooling costs, and improve extrusion profile and die casting quality. These heat treatment advancements support the broader trends of sustainability, decarbonization, and increased efficiency in both automotive and aerospace industries.

Key takeaways from the session will include:

  • Gain insights into understanding heat-treating, nitriding, and die failures.
  • Learn techniques to achieve the perfect nitrided case.
  • Understand the impact of compressive stress distribution on die longevity.
  • Discover strategies to prevent costly defects.
